Travel Reservation - More Fun summer,

That day Carl Lewis came close not once but in an astonishing sequence of jumps produced four or five of the greatest leaps in history. Record to break in the book, if not the hardest, it was considered one of. Had stood for over twenty years and was set by a man named Bob Beamon, 8.90 metres, the long jump record at the time. I can remember it was the World athletics championships and boy do I remember the long jump competition. I cant remember which, and moving on to 1990 or 91, back to summer again then.

. . But it was not to come from Lewis, by now the crowd was fully expecting a world record in the long jump competition. By the third or fourth round Lewis had produced an incredible run of jumps in the 8.80 range. A specialised jumper capable of great distances but inconsistent, mike Powell was considered a real talent. Lewis had everything and was considered one of the greatest sprinters and jumpers of all time.

And Powell was crowned long jump champion on an incredible night of athletics, but it was not enough, lewis produced another jump in the 8.80 metre range, with the pressure back on. He took his mark and produced a record beating 8.95 metres. The wind had been a factor the whole night and Powell was desperate to get a jump in. But due to the wind the jump was considered a foul, close to world record length, powell had produced an absolute monster of a jump, the round previous.
